Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless Headphone
Hi everyone, this is Sujandar from Premium Earphones. Today I’m going to be looking over the Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless Review. It is the new pair of Active Noise-Canceling Headphones from the Sennheiser.
Sennheiser is a direct competitor to the Bose Quiet Comfort 35 Series II.
- Carrying case
- Micro USB cable
- 2.5-millimeter to 3.5-millimeter Audio cable
- Airplane adapter
With the Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless Headphones you get an interesting carrying case for the headphones.
The carrying case is a nice material. It is smooth and when you open the carrying case there will be a diagram to show you how to layout the headphones inside the case. I enjoy how these headphones are collapsible.
It also comes with a Micro USB Cable. You also get a 3.5-millimeter audio cable. When you plug in the audio cable, the headphones automatically shuts down the Bluetooth and it will play everything through the audio cable. Next one is the Airplane Adapter, which can be important for all the travelers. There is also a little pouch which can hold all your accessories.
The first thing I noticed is that the build quality on these headphones.
Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless are about 227 grams or 8 ounces. They can be folded flat and that is how you will be placing them in their carrying case. The case has a divider in the middle because when it is folded the ear cups touch each other. So, the divider prevents it from doing that, so we can avoid any scratches on the ear cups.
Sennheiser PXC 550 is one of the lightest headphones in the market. The headband is wrapped in leather. The headband is soft, and it is also very comfortable while wearing them. I did test on the headband of this headphone and they never broke. They are extremely durable. It has a lot of cushioning to ensure the comfort for its users. Overall, I think it is an amazing built piece of hardware.
There is also padding on both the ear cups. The ear cups are extremely deep, which I think is important because that allows you to have the spacious sound. They use actual leather for their ear cups. The ear cups are comfortable, and it fits my ears good. The ear cups are oval shaped. They are very comfortable to wear over long periods of time
Just like the Sony MDR 1000X headphones, the right ear cups in the Sennheiser PXC 550 also has gesture controls. The controls follow as:
- Swipe Up or Down (Increase Volume and Decrease Volume)
- Swipe Left or Right (Forward and Backward)
- Tap Once (Play, Pause, Attending and Hanging Up Calls)
- Double Tap (Ambient Sound Feature)
Once the headphones are ON, you can just Tap Once and that will start your music and tap again to stop the music. You can also attend and hang up your calls with just One Tap. You can turn the volume up by Swiping Up or Swiping Down. When you control your volume, you will get an audible feedback to let you know whether the volume is going up or down.
Using Double Tap will turn on your Ambient Sound Feature which will let you hear your surroundings without taking off your headphones. When you activate the Ambient Sound Feature it will automatically turn off your music and let you hear everything around you clear. When you Double Tap it again it will turn back your music.
It is impressive how you turn on the headphones. You just twist the headphones to the wearable position from the laid down position, the headphone gets turned ON and they are ready to pair.
Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless has Near Field Communication (NFC), which means you can simply touch your phone with the headphones and you should be able to connect with them through Bluetooth right away.
The Noise Canceling in this headphone is a real treasure. Even with just 50% of Noise Canceling, I was completely surprised about how much noise it blocked. With 100% Noise Canceling it felt like I was in my own world no noise except the music I was playing.
There are three levels of Noise Canceling in this headphone. You can turn it OFF, you can set it up to 50% Noise Canceling or you can set it up 100% Noise Canceling. There is a switch on the headphones where you can control the level of Noise canceling. This is useful because sometimes you want to block everything outside. For instance, loud engines, loud noise and more. That is when you can use the 100% Noise canceling. In the other case, when you want to be aware of your surroundings you can use either 50% or completely turn off the Noise Canceling which will give you complete control over your surroundings.
This headphone has a built-in microphone which you can make calls and it will do an excellent job canceling out the outside noises and delivering a clear voice
When you Double Tap on your right ear cups it will activate your Ambient Sound Feature. When it is activated it will turn on all the microphones and it amplifies everything around you into your ears. When the Ambient Sound Feature is turned ON, you can even listen to somebody who is far away from you. It picks up every little sound around you.
Sennheiser has an app that you can download on your phone to give you complete control over the headphones. You can control how you want them to sound. You can choose specific controls like EQ, Club and different kinds of setup for you. You can also set it up in a way where it pauses automatically when you take the headphones off your ears. All these features can be controlled from the app.
You can enhance your voice using the EQ control in the app. So, let’s say if your listening to an audible or a podcast it will give you a bit more clarity of the voice spoken.
On the right ear cup, you’ll find the Bluetooth switch and effect mode.
Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless has plenty of bass. It has been killing the game when it comes to sound. The bass has improved much better from their last versions. It sounds clear and crisp.
They never drowned on anything. Mids and Treble were so clear. The mids and highs are well pronounced, and it has a lot of depth in the sound.
With the Noise Canceling, listening to music in these headphones will feel like you are in your own zone. It has a great clarity with low ends and high ends. The sound is so rich.
The audio quality is far exceeding the expectations.
It takes 3 hours to completely charge the headphones and it gives you up to 30 hours of playback.
The battery life is great at 30 hours playback. It is more than enough time for the longest of lay overs and flights. They also charge fast. They fully charge in about three hours which is good compared to the other headphones in the market.
When you turn on your headphones it will let you know your battery level.
Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless can be an amazing set of headphones for a business person who travels a lot.
The headphones are durable. They’re comfortable to wear for a long period. The sound is impressive and all those subtle features like subtle swipe gestures on the ear cups or the Ambient Sound Feature allows me to use them and enjoy using them every single day.
It has a greater depth and a heavier bass than the Bose Quiet Comfort 35 Series II.
It is enough to say that these are a better sounding pair of headphones. When you’re listening to music especially with the Active Noise Cancellation turned ON, there’s better bass and a better overall clarity. There is not much difference between the Ambient Sound Feature in the Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless and the Bose QuietComfort 35 Series II.
This headphone has a sturdy build. I think that helps the headphone to be used for a much longer period than a usual headphone.
